Mastering

When it comes to the sound of your tracks, the best person to judge the final product is you, which is why we invite as much input at the mastering stage as possible. While we are happy to recut any track you are not entirely happy with, any suggestions or comments you may have regarding a project beforehand will help us get it right first time.

Dub Studio uses a custom-built mastering console based around the ProTools system from Digidesign, the industry-leader in digital audio. Each dubplate is mastered in 16/24-bit, at a sample rate of 88.2khz, using the finest quality digital components. We rely on the Sonnox (Sony Oxford) and Sonalksis plugins for most of our DSP, as we prefer to keep the signal chain nice and short, doing all the processing in the box using the unparalleled power, dynamic range and clarity of the ProTools mixer.

We always keep a fresh supply of needles in the studio, so you are guaranteed to get a pristine cut every time - loud, punchy, and with a noise floor so far down you will wonder if its there at all. You needn't worry about wide stereo fields either, our specially-developed console can adjust the stereo width at any frequency, without compromising the integrity of the rest of the mix.

All the hard work we have done since we started back in 2003 has paid off, and we are now working with some of the biggest and most exciting names in the business. So whether you are a seasoned dubplate veteran, or you are working on your first dub, make sure you catch the latest word in dubplate technology right here.

Mastering FAQ

Q: Will I need mastering, and how much will it cost?

A: Most tracks need a little mastering before cutting to vinyl, some more than others, so mastering is included in the price. First a little tweaking is done if needed (level, dynamics, and tonal balance mainly), then a test cut to adjust the level and carry out any further tweaking. Sometimes a few test cuts are needed to get it sounding just right, and once that's done the dub is ready to cut.
Please note that mastering for dubplate is not the same as mastering for digital formats. If you require a digital copy of the dubplate master there is a £15 charge per track.
