Shopping Cart

Posted by admin in Untagged

Dub Studio has changed! We now have a completely new way of ordering, which gives more flexibility then ever. You can now add products and services to your cart, then carry on browsing and check out whenever you are ready. The prices shown on the site are for one side of a dub, but you can easily add a second side, or extra tracks - your cart will automatically update giving the total price. Bulk discounts are clearly shown but feel free to add products to your cart to see how much the final order will cost.

Shipping rates have also changed - instead of a flat fee they are now based on the Royal Mail system of price by weight and destination. This is part of Dub Studio's continued effort to be a truly international service.

We would also like to welcome Hazel to the team. She will be handling orders, files and bookings - giving Henry and Boris more time to focus on mastering and the technical side of things! Things might be a little bumpy at first, as we sort out the teething problems with the new system, so please let us know anything you think needs improving.

Stainage - Off the Record 001

Posted by admin in musicmastering

Dub Studio is proud to feature one of its latest Mastering projects!

Dog Politik - Grimelock by Grimelock

Stainage Records launches its free download offshoot – Stainage Off The Records, offering 2 tracks each month produced in its members' secret audio labs in Belgium.

'What you see and what you hear it's for real', you've been warned. Dense cinematic atmos and piercing basslines confront with razor sharp beats setting the tone for a steppy trip through Grimelock's sonic view of 'Dog Politik'.

The story is continued with 'Gorilla March' alongside Alchemyst. Dub heavy pads and stabs coming straight from a big rave flashback that echoes and glows until the bass drops and the beats kick in pumping out the air out of your lungs.

Not a bit of cheese in this pair but pure merciless frequency flows ready to get into your mind and take you far away. Off the records...

Gorilla March - Grimelock feat. Alchemyst by Grimelock

DMC UK DJ Winner 2009

Posted by admin in newsdubplates

Jeppa bags the title using Dub Studio plates!

The DMC UK DJ Final and Battle For UK Supremacy took place on July 10th at the O2 Academy, Islington. The DMC UK DJ Championship featured the 8 best DJs in the UK who have been battling it out across the country over the past 6 months for a place in this years final.

The 8 competing contestants were Special Guest, X-Rated, Disect, Asian Hawk, Rasp, Johnny 1 Move, Furious P and Jeppa. Each DJ played a blinder with the crowd going nuts for more but in the end, only one DJ could be the winner! Johnny 1 Move took 3rd place, Furious P took 2nd place and Jeppa took 1st. There was only one point between 1st (Jeppa) and 2nd (Furious P) places which just goes to show how tight the competition was between these two!

1. JEPPA - 13 POINTS
2. FURIOUS P - 12 POINTS
3. JOHNNY 1 MOVE - 6 POINTS
4. RASP - 5 POINTS
5. ASIAN HAWK - 4 POINTS
6. X-RATED/ DISECT - 1 POINT
8. SPECIAL GUEST - 0 POINTS

Dub Studio by China Devereaux

Posted by admin in vinyl cuttingmasteringdubplates

Here is a video my mate China made about cutting dubs at Dub Studio. There is a bit of artistic license there obviously but you get to see some of the process. The film was shot earlier in this year, in the rather messy temporary studio!

Dynamic Range (Sound Systems)

Posted by admin in vinyl cuttingmasteringdubplates

Following on from the last entry on mastering dubs, I found this interesting excerpt from the Rane Notes series: Setting Sound System Level Controls:

"For sound systems, the maximum loudness level is what is achievable before acoustic feedback, or system squeal begins. While the minimum level is

Do you master dubplates?

Posted by admin in vinyl cuttingpluginsmasteringdubplates

I get asked this question a lot, and there is some information on the site about mastering but I thought it would be interesting to share a few thoughts about it here.

A dubplate is not technically a master. Its a one-off, more like a pre-master or a work in progress. I do monitor each track before

Why do dubplates sound better than CD/Serato?

Posted by admin in vinyl cuttingmasteringdubplatesaudio file formats

A client asked me this question today, and I thought I might as well post my answer up as I had a moment of clarity and it seemed like a shame to share it with just one person:

When it comes to quality, dub plates don't always sound better, you get good dubs and bad dubs. Dubs often sound good
